The "Swallows" migrate back to the Mission San Juan Capistano community
around St. Joseph's Day, March 19 and stay through the summer.
Each year the "Scout Swallows" precede the main flock by a few days and
arrive at the "Old stone Mission" church of San Juan Capistrano.
The arches of the two story, high vaulted Chapel were left bare and
exposed and make a great home for the birds during the summer
as the roof of the Chapel collapsed during the earthquake of 1812.
The Chapel is well known as one of the largest and most ornate of the missions
and referred to as "the Jewel of the Missions.

FLOWER AND GARDEN SHOW SATURDAY, JUNE 7 & SUNDAY, JUNE 8, 2008 Each June for the past 13 years, Mission San Juan Capistrano has presented an annual Flower & Garden Show.
This popular event is held on the lush ten-acre grounds of historic Mission San Juan Capistrano.
Featuring over sixty vendors/exhibitors of flowers, plants, and gardening items.
Music, live demonstrations, and food round out the day so even non-gardeners will appreciate this event.
Proceeds from the festival support the world-famous "Jewel of the Missions" and the work of the Gardening Angels, a group of volunteers who help to beautify the gardens which enhance this historic site.
