Images here in cyberspace that were first published prior to January 1, 1923 is in the public domain
because under U.S. copyright law, originality of expression is necessary for copyright protection.
A mere photograph of an out of copyright two dimensional work may not be protected under American copyright law.
On occasion our artists may get requests to reproduce original paintings from art work reproductions.
Our policy is only to reproduce public domain works that are considered to be in the public domain
regardless of their county of origin (even in countries where mere labor is enough to make a
reproduction eligible for protection).
