Introducing Barbara Collins - Ross Barbara enjoys painting in an irregular plein air style of impasto impressionism and capture animals and people doing every day things. She may add the impasto impression into a future landscape or seascape painting - you just never know how the painting will evolve - the illusion of light and color is dynamic and fun ...
Barb's favorite spot to paint from is Puerto Place in Dana Point .... so many subjects so little time.

During a college summer, she was given a gift to travel to Europe with her USC friends, Carolyn and Dorothy, to study Archeology in Switzerland, Italy and Greece where she was awed and inspired by the architecture and geological topography. And, once you have been to Rome ... well, the magnificent paintings and sculptures by Michelangelo and the Masters left an indelible imprint on her mind. She loves the process of continuing her life long learning of the Arts.
In the painting on the right, she posed her granddaughter Amber Collins (9yrs) in the same position as Renoir's "Girl with a Cat" - of course our cat wasn't cooperating.

She vacationed in San Clemente with her parents every summer and learned how to surf around T-Street and Old Man's during her childhood - so jumped at the chance to move back to San Clemente in the early seventies. She worked on the cliffs above "Old Man's Beach" at the SONGS nuclear plant and lived on the cliffs above the ocean for over 30 years - "the cul-de-sac at North Beach", "the bluffs at Calafia Beach", "the Penthouse overlooking the Pier" and now in the Ocean Hills overlooking "Hole in the Fence" and Dana Point Harbor.
This land and sky scape has inspired her to learn how to paint the beautiful coastal seascape and landscape culture. Barbara took many art and design class electives at various colleges, such as, Cal-Poly, Long Beach State College, Cerritos College, Saddleback College, and Irvine Valley College; however, took her "first" painting class with "Maria" in 1997. My architect friend, Jackie Larson, AIA, found her and purchased her paintings for our Corporate Offices - Maria was well known as the "Local Seascape Artist." She was now hooked and has since painted along with other local artists and has teamed up with the wonderful artists from the South Orange County Coast. She enjoys taking workshops at the places she visits to get a "feel" for the local color and loves to "just capture the moment" and paint whatever just catches her eye.
Barbara is a member of the San Clemente Art Association, the Laguna Plein Air Painters Association and the San Clemente Golf Association Environmental Health & Safety Ocean Awareness Booklets are available from our Cardshop or visit safetysolutions.net

| Laguna Roosters 30x40 Oil by Barbara Ross |

She paints animals and people "plein air style" doing every day things and adds them to many of her landscape and seascape paintings - you never know how the painting will turn out till it's done. As shown in her painting, Laguna Roosters, it was fun capturing the roosters she had seen while walking along the beach one early evening down the road from the "Old Pottery Shack."
